At the RS Elite International Grand Prix at the Royal Yacht Squadron in 2022 the RS Class Association laid down a challenge to the Norwegian Fleet to invite Elite teams to Tonsberg Seilforning. So 5 International teams descended on Norway for a fabulous weekend of league racing. The setting and the weather were spectacular. 5 local boats were provided and 14 teams took part sailing all 5 boats over a series of 8 races.
Day 1 started with a light breeze from the North. After a couple of races each the wind shut off and competitors were provided with lunch and ice creams on the boats whilst waiting for the sea breeze. Day 2 had a stronger breeze all day and 8 races were completed. The racing was close with several photos finishes. At the end two teams one Norwegian helmed by Jostein Akers and one British Tom Hewitson were on equal points, with Paul Lewis on point behind to take third. Rather than deciding the event on the final race score the 2 teams decided in Olympian style to have a medal race. Jostein led from the start to win the event. The weekend was incredible. The visitors were looked after from beginning to end whether being picked up from the station, being provided with club ribs to ferry themselves back and forth to the accommodation to lunch and supper and on the final day the visitors were treated on two yachts to a spectacular trip around the islands with yet another sumptuous lunch on board.
The visitors had the most amazing trip stunned by the scenery and hospitality and truly hoping for an invitation back next year.
